Like the film Field of Dreams, build it and they will come! Just think: while many small airports are closing, we’ve opened a new one! We invite you to fly in and visit this beautiful and unique location on the California coast.
Monterey Bay Academy, a Seventh Day Adventist high school, owns the Airfield, which crosses its campus. The Academy has chosen Ocean Shore Aviation, LLC to operate the Airfield, and to develop a flight training program for the school’s students. Together we have improved the airfield, to make it a more inviting destination, by adding turf, windsocks, tie downs and a webcam.
Our airfield is a place where folks can land, enjoy a beautiful ocean view off the end of the runway, have lunch at a picnic table under the pines, and take a walk on the beach. Events are in the works for those who enjoy flying into an airfield with that wonderful feel of the 1950s. Our goal is to have someone here on Sunday afternoons, with refreshments, to welcome visitors. We aspire to become a regular gathering place for small airplanes, as we build a thriving flight training program for young aviators.
Monterey Bay Academy Airfield and Ocean Shore Aviation are entirely volunteer operations, depending on the financial support and effort of folks who love this place. Rent, liability insurance, improvements to the field, and compensation for our airfield manager are costly. The Airfield can remain open only if visitors help. There’s a drop box for donations on the signboard adjacent to the tie down area. You can also donate by credit card, or a Paypal account, by clicking the link at the foot of this page.
We also invite you to become an Airfield benefactor by joining the CA66ers, an organization of pilots and friends who are committed to keeping this Airfield alive. You can learn more by clicking the “Join the CA66ers” link at the top of this page.
Because Monterey Bay Academy Airfield crosses a busy flower ranch, on the campus of a high school with 150 students, safety and security are especially important considerations. Operating guidelines help us remain a safe destination and good neighbors. As part of your flight planning, please read our guidelines here. We welcome visitors to Monterey Bay Academy Airfield, without prior request, and ask that you read the guidelines regarding subsequent visits.
We have installed a webcam to help with your flight planning, and to note activity at the Airfield. The webcam image updates every ten minutes. Check it out here.
